Cosa è ETHERNET

Nei componenti elettronici, Ethernet è la tecnologia della rete locale (area locale della rete locale) più utilizzata nelle reti di computer. Ethernet è un insieme di protocolli di comunicazione standardizzati che consentono ai computer e ai dispositivi di rete di comunicare tra loro e scambiare dati.

Ethernet è una tecnologia sviluppata congiuntamente da Xerox, Intel e DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) negli anni '70 e inizialmente trasmessa dati ad una velocità di 10 Mbps (megabit al secondo). Tuttavia, le velocità sono migliorate nel tempo e ora sono in grado di trasferire dati a velocità di 10 gigabit al secondo (GBPS) o più. Inoltre, la tecnologia Ethernet viene utilizzata in una varietà di applicazioni mentre si evolve in forme cablate e wireless.

Ethernet funziona rilevando ed evitando le collisioni nella rete utilizzando il protocollo CSMA/CD (Accesso multiplo con Sense portante con rilevamento delle collisioni). Inoltre, segue lo standard chiamato IEEE 802.3 e, in base a esso, vengono definiti vari tipi e velocità Ethernet.

Ethernet è attualmente utilizzato per collegare computer e dispositivi di rete in vari ambienti come uffici, case, data center e siti industriali ed è anche ampiamente utilizzato per accedere a Internet. Inoltre, con l'integrazione con nuove tecnologie come Internet of Things (IoT), più dispositivi utilizzano Ethernet per comunicare tra loro e scambiare dati.
